I Saw the Devil (2010)

I Saw the Devil is a gore film that is brutal, full of blood, even cruel. But, the writer and director (Kim Jee-Woon) can create tension so that the film does not feel too sadistic and terrible, it also looks artistic and stylish. Violence in the film colors the story and characters well.

I Saw The Devil was made not to be a cheap class B film, where the scene of stabbing bloody origin that looks ridiculous. Every sadistic scene was designed with realistic effects and it made me feel sick watching it. Each frame is beautifully designed with an artistic touch – making I Saw The Devil on the other hand so beautiful.

Synopsis I Saw the Devil

Kim Ji-Woon did not hesitate to show sadistic scenes such as blows to the head (with barbells, sticks, etc.), stabbing, rape to the most painful to watch: mutilation. Bloods are everywhere. Prepare to feel nauseous.

This film not only features a cat-and-mouse scene but also a moral element: We know who was the antagonist at the beginning of the film, but when the protagonist then turns into the same cruel, we don’t know who the real monster is. Soo-Hyun is faced with feelings of guilt and remorse when his revenge backfires which causes misfortune to those he loves.
